Daily vs Unlimited Hive: Which Mode Should You Play?
One is a shared daily challenge, the other is an endless practice session. Here is how to get the most from both modes.
SpellBee Unlimited has two ways to play. The daily hive gives everyone the same seven letters, while unlimited mode gives you a fresh set whenever you want one. The rules and scoring are identical. The difference is how the two modes fit into your day.
The daily hive
The daily hive is a shared challenge. Everyone who plays today sees the same letters, and the puzzle changes at 00:00 UTC. Your progress is saved in the browser, so you can close the tab and come back later. At the end of a round you can share a short score summary without spoiling the answers. It is the mode to play if you like routine, comparison, and a reason to come back tomorrow.
The unlimited hive
Unlimited mode generates a new set of letters on demand. There is no waiting and no daily limit. It is the right place to warm up before the daily, practice a strategy, or keep playing after you have finished the shared puzzle. If you are learning the game, unlimited mode removes the pressure of a single attempt.

Which one should you play?
- Choose the daily hive if you like a fixed routine, a shared challenge, or comparing scores with friends.
- Choose unlimited mode if you want to improve, warm up, or keep playing after the daily is done.
- Choose both if you want the best of each: a short unlimited warm-up, then your daily attempt.
A routine that uses both
- Spend five minutes in unlimited mode as a warm-up. Do not chase a high score; just wake up your word brain.
- Play the daily hive in one focused attempt. Use the routine from our word-finding guide.
- Check the words you missed and the pangram count. Ask yourself which category you neglected.
- Play one more unlimited round with that category in mind.
